100 Word Story

Driving along the muddy road with my brother wasn't the most pleasant trip but it was better than going through the forest, with who knows what living there. “Slow down!!!” I scream at Zane. “You’re going to make us get stuck in a dip!” But no, he wouldn't listen. Racing through the mud, a mix of bugs and dirt splashed up onto the windscreen. Suddenly, Zane screeches to a stop and stares at the animal going past. Once it passes he stomps on the pedal and finds that we haven’t moved. I get out and see that we are stuck.

The Black Hole

Stuck at work, Bob was working with the photocopier when it suddenly became muddled. Frustrated with it, he bangs and kicks it until a mysterious piece of paper with a black circle prints out.

Bob takes no notice of this black circle and simply places it to the side and continues to print. Putting his coffee cup down, it suddenly disappears down the black hole. He reaches down the hole for the cup and places it on the nearby table.

He then examines the piece of paper by reaching through it. To test its powers, he walks towards the vending machine and wonders “This piece of paper could make me rich!” So placing the paper on the vending machine Bob reaches through the hole and grabs a chocolate bar. Then he heads to the main office.

Placing the paper on the door, he reaches through and opens the locked door. “The Safe” he thinks to himself. Rushing over to it, he sticks the paper up and greedily takes out handfuls of money. Wanting more, he climbs into the black hole knowing that is more bundles of money at the back of the safe but unfortunately the weight of Bob was too heavy for the tape to hold. It falls off the safe and Bob is locked in there..

BANG BANG BANG. He cried for help, but with no response, he was stuck in there.

Bob and The Black Hole

Today we watched a movie called The Black Hole. Then we had to write ten sentences to describe the movie. I did this with Tyla-Marie and Hosannah. These sentences are in no particular order.
On this first picture our sentences were...
What would you do with a black hole that could go through anything?
Late at night Bob discovered the black hole.
Suspiciously wondering, Bob realised it could go through anything.
In front of the vending machine, was where Bob put the black hole.
Putting his hand through the hole, he reached for a chocolate bar.
This picture says....
Hearing a sound from the office, he walked towards it.
Placing the hole on the locked door, he opened it to reach the safe.
The big grey safe led Bob to money.
"This could make me a millionaire", thought Bob. "I should steal all the money"
For being greedy, he deserved to be locked in the safe. And he was.
SHAME BOB!!!

Do you think you know how the movie went??? If not here it is....

THANK YOU TELECOM!!

Have you ever been to the Telecom Christmas Tree event? If you haven't, you should go! It is held in Victoria Park at night time and it is also free.

Thanks to Telecom, this year some people from our school got the chance to attend this very exciting event. First we took a bus to Telecom and then we walked down to Victoria Park. Once we got there we set up and had something to eat.

There were quite alot of activities to do there. First my friend and I went to the Santa Line to tell Santa what we wanted for Christmas. Next a man gave us a decoration we could design. I chose a tree. On the back I drew MERRY CHRISTMAS and HO, HO, HO!!!

After a while I saw my brother coming back with a box that had a light in it. I decided I wanted one, so I went in the tent and created one too! It had a brown kiwi, a sparkly Christmas tree, a Telecom sign and a laser light in the middle to light it.

Everything was so much fun, but I couldn't wait to see Titanium! They sang their hit song Come on home and more! Unfortunately I didn't get a picture with them! But besides from that I had a great night!!!

It was very entertaining and the tree looked amazing!!! It was so bright. I wish we could've stayed longer!

If you want to find out when this is and where here is a link to website! http://www.telecomtree.co.nz/
Also if you want to see a Video here it is...

Olympic Medals

In extension, we had to design an olympic medal. We had to think about what the olympics would look like in New Zealand. Once we had ideas we planned them on piece of paper. As you can see I have put a kiwi bird, a silver fern and the skytower. These represent New Zealand.

Wahine by Robyn Kahukiwa

In extension we were learning about New Zealand Artists. One painting we looked at is called Wahine. This was drawn by Robyn Kahukiwa. We had to copy the painting and make a movie out of it. I hope you like it!

CAMP WAS AWESOME!

Camp has just finished and now I am going to tell you about it! Arriving at Camp Bentzon we were greeted by Peter and Erin(they are the people who own Camp Bentzon) The boys also performed a haka.

I couldn't wait until our first activity started but first we had a walk to finish. Walking up the hills for around 2 hours and a half nearly killed me! As soon as we finished we had free time for the rest of the day!!!

Out of all the activities my favourite one was SAILING! Even though it was boring, with not much wind, we still had a whole heap of fun! After we geared up, Peter gave us 20 minutes of instructions, then off we went. Our aim was a boat called Typhoon. After we left the little bit of the bay, the wind started to pick up. We had races and some boys sang songs. Soon we had to get to our next activity.

Heading towards the Abseiling wall, there we met Anita and Camila. They taught us how to abseil. Before I could abseil I had to wait a while but soon it was my turn. Climbing up the metal rings I could feel my stomach turning. Finally I got to the top. Slowly walking back down, I felt like I was floating in air. When I touched the ground I wanted to do it again.

On the last night we had our concert and that is where each group performs. After everyone performed, Mr Jacobsen started to announce the winner... "In 3rd place... Mansion!!! And In 2nd place.... Katz!!! And with 4700 points Kawau and Benzon!!! I was so surprised. Also we have a camp king and queen and this year they were Tyla-Marie and Wyatt and Isara! I had a whole lot of fun! I wish I could go again. Maybe my family and I could go!

Camp is Coming!!!

Finally!!! Tomorrow most of the year 6’s will be heading to Kawau Island for a fantastic camp and experience. All the activities sound like such fun. Also sleeping in the same room as my friends will be even better.

Most people know that Camp Benzon is on Kawau Island. To get to Kawau Island you have to take a ferry from sandspit. Well, that’s how we’re getting there. It even comes all the way to our wharf!

There are many things to enjoy at Kawau Island such as the wharf, volleyball court and the park. Not to mention the activities we do. Like sailing, abseiling, orienteering and much more! But I am most looking forward to the Burma Trail!

The Burma Trail sounds like fun although I don’t know if I can trust my partner. Luckily there is a rope to guide us. I really want to do this because I do enjoy obstacle courses and being blindfolded will make it even more of a challenge.

I think the challenge for me will be orienteering because I didn't do very well in the last one at our other camp. Also I don't know how to use a compass.

Overall I think this is going to be amazing! I can’t wait until tomorrow morning!!!!

Couplet Poetry

Summer:
Boiling hot sun

Spoils the fun
On the sand
Away from land
Near the waves
I see the caves
Camp:
At year 6 camp
I don’t want a cramp
From a run
I did in the sun
It will ruin my day
And that’s what I say

Operation Flax

It is about a girl called Freya, her mum and a lady, who just moved in called Mrs Harper. She has been having trouble getting up and down her driveway so she decides to remove the flax. This shocks Freya and her mum because they love the flax. Freya even makes syrup for the tui’s that come and her mum makes kete’s from it.

Mrs Harper feels sorry for them but doesn't change her mind. Freya and her mum then try to convince Mrs Harper to keeping it by... making syrup for the tui’s and putting on Mrs Harper’s side of the flax. Then her mum makes a kete for Mrs Harper. Suddenly along come some tui’s. Mrs Harper calls her husband to see it and soon they decide to keep it at the back of their house where Freya and her mum will be able to see and get to it.

Kids Triathlon

During the week we had the chance to try out the Kids Triathlon. As most people know tri mean 3 and athlon means event or competition. The three sports in a triathlon are Swimming, Biking and Running.

To start the challenge we had to slide four times over the water slide. It was like our pool. Standing in front of the water slide, I suddenly felt a shock of cold water being sprayed. “3, 2, 1 GO!!!” shouted Brett and off we went. Smoothly sliding across the slide, I soon had to get up and do another 3.

Heading into transition zone (this is where we change sports) I grabbed my bike and pushed it out to the biking zone. Hopping on, I pedaled around the flags to the finish line. Jumping off just before the transition zone, I parked my bike and started off in the run.

Off to a jogging start, I looked around for Lisia and Jonita. Not far behind I stopped and waited for a while. Getting closer and closer to the finish line, I nearly tripped. Finally finishing the whole thing I couldn't wait to do it again!

I had so much fun on the water slide and hope to someday do another one. Even though it is so much fun it can be exhausting!

The Bush

With wind blowing through my hair on a Saturday afternoon, I suddenly spot a bush track with gorgeous flowers she had never seen before. Curious to find out what else was in the bush I dropped my bike and walked over to the track and starts riding towards the beginning of the bush. With Josh following close behind they suddenly come to a stop.

Looking at both tracks, we started to get confused. Thinking to myself, “which way??”
Hesitating about the track, Josh started walking down the right one. Without thinking I run up to him and stay close by.Thinking “When are we going to get out of here?” another sudden stop awakes me from my thinking.

Too frightened to see what is was, I slowly forced myself to peek past Josh. With my eyes wide open I see a river too deep for us to walk through. “We are going to make it, we are going to make it” I repeat over and over to myself.

Suddenly a drop of water falls down to my nose. “We have to swim!” yells Josh. Diving into the water I feel a shiver go up my spine but I ignore it. Getting closer to the edge I jump up and run out of the bush and find that it has stopped raining.

Josh suddenly runs out and I can tell he thinks “WHY did you do that!” I am so happy that we are out and safe! Shivering and glad Josh and I walk home.

THE END

The Robbery

Speed walking past the other shops, on a Saturday evening, I wanted to get home quickly before my favourite TV show was on. I had just passed the Dairy, with a drink in my hand,  when I saw something suspicious. There was a man dressed in full black, who stared right into my eyes while he walked closer and closer.

Just as he was about to grab me, I noticed cuts and scars on him. Too frightened to do anything, I saw something move behind him. Trying to move myself from my position I got a quick glimpse of people tied up in the dairy. Thinking to myself... Is that what he’s going to do to me and what is going to do to them afterwards?

While I was still thinking, he grabbed my arm and pulled me towards the shop. Tying me up and placing tape on my mouth I then realised what this was. Another man was behind the counter frantically grabbing the money.

Since the robber still looked like he had a while until he would go, I decided to try and find something to cut my rope. Trying to get a hold of something, I noticed that one of the robbers was looking at me. Slowly putting myself into my original position, I stay frozen until I see a car pull up outside.

With the money, the robbers start to head out the door to the car. “What about us??!!” I wonder. Suddenly I hear loud noises and bright lights. Looking towards the window I think, WE’RE SAVED! Then the robbers run back in and cause more trouble.

One of them pulled out a gun and grabs a kid telling them to let him go or else! Closing my eyes, I repeat to myself, “It’s all going to be alright, It’s all going to be alright”. Feeling someone's hand on my shoulder I get a little shock. “You can go now” said the person. I looked up to see if the robbers still had the kid but they didn't. They were handcuffed and in the police car. I got up, still shaking, and started walking out of the shop back home.

Luckily everyone ended up safe. The cops took the robbers away and everyone got back on with their life. I still didn't figure out who called the cops though.
