PES Olympics

Finally the day had come! Making my way out to the court I could see a line for my country... JAMAICA. As I sat down, I could hear everyone chanting out their country’s. Just like the real olympics we marched around the court and as soon as we finished the march, THE GAMES BEGUN!

Entering the hall, I looked around and suddenly knew that we were playing Sitting Volleyball. We split up into 2 groups and sat down. Not long after us another country arrived and they were France. Tyla was in this team. “Hit it!” I heard someone shout. Without warning the ball was heading straight for me, I didn’t manage to hit it. Soon I was the server. It hit it towards Tyla and she hit it back to someone in my team. It went back and forth a few time until someone won the point. Overall the score was 4-5 to France. I hoped our next event would be better.

There were many events like, Touch, 3 Legged Soccer, Basketball and more! Soon we got to play rounders which is like Cricket and Baseball. We had to kick a ball and then run to the base. Unfortunately I didn’t get around. Someone got me out when I was just about to get a home run! When the game finished we scored 10 points for sportsmanship. I don’t know if we won or not.

I had a really fun day and I can’t wait to have another sports day like this.

Olympics: The Men's Rowing Pair

Hamish Bond and Eric Murray won a gold medal when they were the first across the finish line. I bet everyone in New Zealand was feeling very proud of them. I also think they were felling good about them selves too! That means another gold medal for New Zealand.

New Zealand is 15th on the list and we have 8 medals which are:
GOLD: 3       SILVER: 2      BRONZE: 5

Medley Relays

Medley Swimming is a team event that has 4 people who swim 4 different strokes. They must swim these 4 strokes in the correct order which is: Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly and Freestyle.

To win this event athletes must swim 100m’s as fast as you can. Strict rules are adhered to, such as using the right stroke and turning correctly.

Swimmers wear swim suits or jons made of spandex so that there is less drag. Goggles are also helpful because they let you see if your going off track and when you need to turn at the end. They also use swimming caps. The caps are nice and smooth like a bullet point and it helps them stay in line. Obviously this is done in a swimming pool.

Skills and strengths are needed to compete and to have these skills and strengths you have to train. Swimmers are most likely to be in the pool around 5-6 days of the week for around 6 hours. Athletes would also have to keep a healthy diet.

I think that this would be a tiring  sport and I hope that the teams do well.

Olympic Symbols

This image is curtesy of explow.com
Baron Pierre De Coubertin invented the Olympic symbol and also the flag. All the rings are interlocking. Did you know that the rings are these colours because every flag had at least 1 of them?

The Olympic flag has 5 rings which are on a white background. At the opening ceremony the flag is hoisted up the pole. It shall stay there the whole time of the games, but when the games end it is brought down at the closing ceremony.

Ancient Chariot Races

I got this image from library.thinkquest.org
Chariot racing became one of the important events when it was added to the Olympic games in 680 B.C. It also became one of the most popular games for the Greeks and the Romans.

In these chariot races you could get seriously injured, because other competitors would try and knock you off your horse or even worse!

Other little facts:
Chariot races were held in buildings called Hippodromes. They are like arena's.

If a horse became useless to them they would put it down.

My Pretend Olympian

While we were with Miss King, we had to create a graphic of us pretending to be olympians. First we had to strike a pose in front of the camera. Next we drew on the pictures. This is my graphic.
