Where is Chris?!

It was a sunny day and Danny, Emily and Chris decided to go camping at the beach. When they asked their mum she was shocked and instantly said NO. They had no idea why mum was so strict about this.
One night, they snuck out of the house with camping gear, hoping their trip would be worth the risk of getting in trouble, but they didn't know what they were in for. As they walked closer to the beach, more and more excitement grew. Suddenly, all in a flash the kids had reached the beach and realised something had gone wrong. Someone was missing.

Chris must have run off, while they were walking. Danny quickly pulled out his phone and frantically started dialing, until he noticed, no signal. Emily instantly realised this was a very big mistake. “Think!” she thought to herself.

There was nothing else to do but to tell their parents, so they followed the tracks back to their house. Along the way there were many obstacles but that didn’t stop them from getting back home. Arriving at the doorstep, Emily pushed open the door ran to her parents room and found that no one was there.

In the end they did find their parents and Chris and from then on they listened to their mum and dad.

Thai Fish Cakes!

Have you ever tasted Thai Fish Cakes?
There DELICIOUS!

Our Year 5 & 6 Extension Group entered a competition called Let's Cook With Parmco. Each week there is a different meal to  make a you can probably guess what we had to make this time! That's right! Thai Fish Cakes!

Firstly we got into groups and in my group was (from left to right) Jouan, Tyla-Marie , Iron, Gloria, Sela and me! Making this was very easy but that's because I didn't do much (I was taking photos). But it did look easy from what I was doing.

If I could make this for my family I would. My mum has been telling me to make it!

My Interview with Valerie Adams

Thanks to Olympic.org.nz for this image.
Interviewer: Hello, my name is Kaycee and I am really excited to be having the well known tongan, 2 time gold medalist currently living in Auckland, fabulous world champion Shot putter, Give a round of applause for.... Valerie Adams. Hello Valerie!

Valerie Adams: Hello Kaycee

Interviewer: Now Valerie, I’ve heard that there are different spin styles to put the metal ball. Do you use more than one and if you do which ones?

Valerie Adams: I only use one and it is called the glide. It is very common for someone like me. It is not one that would be used for beginners though. Another well known style used by professional men, is the ‘spin’.

Interviewer: Thanks for that. So if you're a beginner don’t use this one. I wonder?...Are there many ways to get disqualified?

Valerie Adams: Yes there are. At the olympics once your name is called out you have to get started on the throw before 60 secs is up, otherwise you're out. Also you must step out from the back and you aren’t allowed to step out of the circle before the push is finished.

Interviewer: Wow. This event has some very strict rules. What do you need to do to train?

Valerie Adams: I probably spend most of the week I have to lift weights to get my strength up. I also have to eat special and the right foods to be able to get stronger.

Interviewer: You must spend a lot of your time with weights. Tell us about your  family?

Valerie Adams: Well, I have 1 brother who is Steven Adams, the basketball player. My mum is tongan and her name is Lilika Ngauamo. My dad is english and his name is Sydney Adams.

Interviewer: THANK-YOU Valerie for this amazing talk and we hope to see you at the next olympics!

BasketBall

Last week we got to play Basketball with a pro. He taught us different techniques and skills that we would need if we did end up playing Basketball.

First we started outside with some drills. Soon we got into pairs a got a ball. We practised different ways to bounce the ball up and down the court. Once the first person finished the next person went. We also got to go in the hall for a game.

Entering the hall I could see that there were 2 basketball hoops set up. We got to play a game called Golden Child. We split up into 2 teams. One team were the shooters and the other team were the runners. Each team had an aim and for the shooters it was to try and get as many people out by getting as many basketballs in. But for the runners, their aim was to get as many people around the court before the shooter's score. If the shooter's score the person must stop running and the next person goes. When there is only one person left he runs but when he/she passes you, you can run too. We played this game and unfortunately we lost!

I had a lot of fun at basketball! It was pretty tiring though. As much as it tiring it’s also alot of fun and I can’t wait to go again!

The Olympic Creed

Pierre de Courbertin wrote this creed.
This is it. "The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well".
