Writing Sample

During the holidays, the only things making me excited was the fact that it was the ‘holidays’ and that I would be enjoying a week up north. Thoughts came to mind about how much fun I would have, spending time with my family.

Hopping into the car, I tried to avoid sitting next to my menacing younger cousin. It would’ve been an even longer trip if I was sitting next to him. Lucky for me, I managed to get the entire back seat to myself.

I woke up uncertain of where I was as I  was no longer in a car full of people and bags. I jumped out of the car, still half asleep and walked inside.

“Hello?” I said, peering through the slightly opened front door. No one was to be seen and no one was to be heard. Suddenly, I heard whispers and quiet footsteps. “BOO!” yelled one of my cousin’s. I screamed as though the whole town could hear it. Quickly, my cousin covered my mouth, shutting me up.

I looked at him evilly, while wondering where everyone else is. “Where is everyone?” I asked quietly. He dragged me out to the yard and when we got there, everyone popped out from hiding. Along with everyone else he yelled “RAAAAR!!!!” I screamed for so long, it was hard to forgive them.

Holiday Experiences

Throughout the holidays I have enjoyed many activities and places such as... Rocket Ropes, Parakai Springs, Horse Riding, The Zoo and more! Every week for 3 weeks I got to go to 3 places.

For the first week we got to have fun at Parakai Hot Springs. I also went to Motat and got a bit freaked out at Rocket Ropes!

In the second week we watched animals at the zoo, then saw some fish and stingrays at Kelly Tarltons and finally had a swim at Mt Albert Wave Pools. The slide wasn't really packed which was good!

The third week we went to the Drury Horse Trek. It was great fun and I got to ride a horse called Buster. A day later we went to watch Rise Of The Guardians. It was quite good. On the last day we just went to Glen Innes Pools.

Overall I had a great holiday and I really love all the activities I got to do. I can't wait until the next holidays.

Taupo Bay

Have you ever woken up to a burning hot morning and said to yourself "Oh my gosh... Can we go for a swim!?" Well for the past few days that's exactly what I have been thinking. That's why, I was glad there was a beach not far from where we were, called Taupo Bay.

Just so you know, Taupo Bay is a magnificent beach not far from Totara North. It's sandy, like each one should be, it has a delightful breeze, some awesome waves and of course cooling water to calm everyone's burning hot bodies.

Arriving near the beach you could see the amazing view from the hill just before the beach. When we got down to the beach, Zane, TuAriki and I raced out with our boards and jumped in the water. As we got in, one wave bowled us over straight away.

Rushing out to the deeper end to catch the next wave, I saw Zane go under quite quickly. Luckily he came back up. Spending 3 hours at the beach that day wore us out and gave me sun stroke. But the next day we didn't go to the beach.

During the whole week we probably went to the beach 2 days and spent a good 6 hours swimming. After this we were burnt on our backs, shoulders, arms and face. Even though we got burnt it was such a great beach!

My Holiday Highlight

During the holidays I have done many things I didn't think I would do. Such as, going to the movies, Ice-Skating, Roller-Skating and a Birthday. But my highlight was going to the snow at Mt Ruapehu.

We left for the snow on Thursday morning. When we got to National Park we went straight to the mountain and started playing. Once this day ended we went back to our hotel called Skotel.

The next day Zane and I were allowed to get the ski's and snowboards! I decided to use the ski's while Zane chose the snowboard. It didn't take long for me to get use to the ski's  with the help of my teacher, Chris. That day we stayed for the whole session. I think that Zane and I got pretty good at skiing and snowboarding. Soon we had to leave because it was about to close.

Unfortunately it was raining really hard the next day so nothing much happened. We did end up going to the Information Centre and Cafe though.

Then the next day we had to leave.... We didn't want to though. But I had so much fun and I hope I go again!
