My Interview with Valerie Adams

Thanks to Olympic.org.nz for this image.
Interviewer: Hello, my name is Kaycee and I am really excited to be having the well known tongan, 2 time gold medalist currently living in Auckland, fabulous world champion Shot putter, Give a round of applause for.... Valerie Adams. Hello Valerie!

Valerie Adams: Hello Kaycee

Interviewer: Now Valerie, I’ve heard that there are different spin styles to put the metal ball. Do you use more than one and if you do which ones?

Valerie Adams: I only use one and it is called the glide. It is very common for someone like me. It is not one that would be used for beginners though. Another well known style used by professional men, is the ‘spin’.

Interviewer: Thanks for that. So if you're a beginner don’t use this one. I wonder?...Are there many ways to get disqualified?

Valerie Adams: Yes there are. At the olympics once your name is called out you have to get started on the throw before 60 secs is up, otherwise you're out. Also you must step out from the back and you aren’t allowed to step out of the circle before the push is finished.

Interviewer: Wow. This event has some very strict rules. What do you need to do to train?

Valerie Adams: I probably spend most of the week I have to lift weights to get my strength up. I also have to eat special and the right foods to be able to get stronger.

Interviewer: You must spend a lot of your time with weights. Tell us about your  family?

Valerie Adams: Well, I have 1 brother who is Steven Adams, the basketball player. My mum is tongan and her name is Lilika Ngauamo. My dad is english and his name is Sydney Adams.

Interviewer: THANK-YOU Valerie for this amazing talk and we hope to see you at the next olympics!

Ancient Chariot Races

I got this image from library.thinkquest.org
Chariot racing became one of the important events when it was added to the Olympic games in 680 B.C. It also became one of the most popular games for the Greeks and the Romans.

In these chariot races you could get seriously injured, because other competitors would try and knock you off your horse or even worse!

Other little facts:
Chariot races were held in buildings called Hippodromes. They are like arena's.

If a horse became useless to them they would put it down.

Battle Of The Blankets!

Getting up is sometimes hard for me, especially on winter mornings. Unfortunately I had to get up. Waking up to a cold room is hard. I knew straight away that the Battle Of The Blankets was about to begin.

I threw my blankets off myself to the side of my bed. Slowly standing up I couldn’t help but jump back into bed. The wooden floor was freezing. "If only we had carpet", I thought to myself. Trying once again, I guess, I managed to do it. I quickly put on my uniform. Finally, today's battle is over. "I know there will be more", I thought in my head.

Portrait

In reading, we have been given a task to paint a portrait of ourselves using Van Gogh's style. Here is the painting I created. I thought it wouldn't be that hard but it took a while!

Sunflowers By Van Gogh

The Sunflowers painted (with oil paint) by the well known Vincent Van Gogh is very very valuable. It is around 73 by 92 cm. In 1888, when it was painted, it was worth nothing, but 99 years later in 1987 it was sold for $40 000 000.

If you were to run your hand over this famous and cheerful painting, which probably wouldn’t happen, you would feel that the texture is very rough. When Van Gogh painted this he would have glumps of paint. He sometimes used a knife when he was painting.

The main colour in this painting is yellow, it is a very happy and cheerful colour. Cheerful and happy was exactly what he was feeling at this time. He also used the colours red and orange.

When I look at this Sunflower painting I think of something happy and cheerful because of the bright and sunny colours. Also this painting looks very realistic with its different ages of sunflowers. This painting has a lot of positives, I can’t even think of anything negative!

As everyone knows Van Gogh is very famous for his artwork. Van Gogh painted this piece of art to hang up in Paul Gauguin's room. Paul Gauguin was one of Van Gogh best friends and he was coming to stay with him. This made him very glad.

2 years later after he had painted the Sunflowers, he died. People say he shot himself and two days later he died. While he was alive his art was worth only a few dollars. After this happened everyone realised that his artwork was AMAZING. Now his paintings are worth millions!
