Year 8 Camp!

A few weeks ago, the year 8’s were lucky enough to go and camp at the Marsden Bay Christian Camp in Ruakaka. It was so much fun, I wish it had lasted longer! Over the four days we spent there, I got to enjoy relaxing, many activities and more.

Day 1 wasn’t that bad but it surely wasn’t my favourite. After taking a 2 hour bus drive, we stopped at Langs Bay and started our hike towards Waipu Cove. Ms Squires had planned what was supposed to be an easy walk, but due to the weather it wasn’t so. The track was not only slippery but very narrow which made it harder for everyone to avoid plummeting to their deaths. But luckily, everyone made it to the end.

For me, my favourite day was day 3. We did many different activities such as a fire pit cooking challenge, archery, a confidence course, frisbee golf and kayaking! Then to finish the night off, we all gathered around a campfire and sang songs.

But overall, my highlight from camp was probably spending time together as a whole year 8 group (instead of just our team groups). Also, getting to know other people that I don’t usually hang out with.

CAMP WAS AWESOME!

Camp has just finished and now I am going to tell you about it! Arriving at Camp Bentzon we were greeted by Peter and Erin(they are the people who own Camp Bentzon) The boys also performed a haka.

I couldn't wait until our first activity started but first we had a walk to finish. Walking up the hills for around 2 hours and a half nearly killed me! As soon as we finished we had free time for the rest of the day!!!

Out of all the activities my favourite one was SAILING! Even though it was boring, with not much wind, we still had a whole heap of fun! After we geared up, Peter gave us 20 minutes of instructions, then off we went. Our aim was a boat called Typhoon. After we left the little bit of the bay, the wind started to pick up. We had races and some boys sang songs. Soon we had to get to our next activity.

Heading towards the Abseiling wall, there we met Anita and Camila. They taught us how to abseil. Before I could abseil I had to wait a while but soon it was my turn. Climbing up the metal rings I could feel my stomach turning. Finally I got to the top. Slowly walking back down, I felt like I was floating in air. When I touched the ground I wanted to do it again.

On the last night we had our concert and that is where each group performs. After everyone performed, Mr Jacobsen started to announce the winner... "In 3rd place... Mansion!!! And In 2nd place.... Katz!!! And with 4700 points Kawau and Benzon!!! I was so surprised. Also we have a camp king and queen and this year they were Tyla-Marie and Wyatt and Isara! I had a whole lot of fun! I wish I could go again. Maybe my family and I could go!

Camp is Coming!!!

Finally!!! Tomorrow most of the year 6’s will be heading to Kawau Island for a fantastic camp and experience. All the activities sound like such fun. Also sleeping in the same room as my friends will be even better.

Most people know that Camp Benzon is on Kawau Island. To get to Kawau Island you have to take a ferry from sandspit. Well, that’s how we’re getting there. It even comes all the way to our wharf!

There are many things to enjoy at Kawau Island such as the wharf, volleyball court and the park. Not to mention the activities we do. Like sailing, abseiling, orienteering and much more! But I am most looking forward to the Burma Trail!

The Burma Trail sounds like fun although I don’t know if I can trust my partner. Luckily there is a rope to guide us. I really want to do this because I do enjoy obstacle courses and being blindfolded will make it even more of a challenge.

I think the challenge for me will be orienteering because I didn't do very well in the last one at our other camp. Also I don't know how to use a compass.

Overall I think this is going to be amazing! I can’t wait until tomorrow morning!!!!

Couplet Poetry

Summer:
Boiling hot sun

Spoils the fun
On the sand
Away from land
Near the waves
I see the caves
Camp:
At year 6 camp
I don’t want a cramp
From a run
I did in the sun
It will ruin my day
And that’s what I say

First Day Of Camp!

Finally, I had been waiting for ages for this day! I couldn't wait to do all the activities. I was most scared of the kayaking activity. The first thing we did was called Top Teams. Mr Marks had made it up. We were vs his team. After that is was kayaking.

Their was a big suprise that I found out and that was that it turns out my favourite thing was kayaking. What a surprise I thought to myself. I can't wait until tomorrow.

Camp, Camp, Camp!

How exciting, the year 5 6's camp is only 2 days away!

I can't wait until we get to do the Top Teams challenge! I am looking forward to being able to get messy without getting in trouble.

This year I'm worried about the concert. Last year I was scared doing the performance in front of lots of people and now this year I have to make up a dance which is even scarier.

Christmas

Christmas is nearly here. There’s only 13 days to go to! I CAN’T WAIT!!!

This year we might be having a UMU and breakfast at my Nana and Papa’s house! An umu is like a Tongan hangi! My cousin had told my other cousin and I, that we were going to have a hangi. But he lied!

We also might go to my aunty’s new house to see my little cousin Tahu,  and open some of our presents of course! I love visiting my aunty and cousin’s because the house is sooo big and the bottom room is cool. It's also bright and it’s really nice.

After Christmas we might be going up north, somewhere with a beach. Since my Papa knows someone up there we might be able to get in free? But I don’t know. We’ll just see what happens!

Starting Camp

Camp was so FUN! When camp started we all brought our stuff in the morning and then we left it for the night then the next day It was time to start CAMP!
Arriving the next day I excitedly walked to my class. As soon as I got there we went to the hall and talked about all the activities.Mr. Burt told us all of the things we are doing and what we have to do at camp. When he finished telling us about all of the things he told us witch group’s we’re in and then it was time to go!
Walking unsteadily to Mr.Marks he told us witch tent we are in.Carefully moving around the tents I looked for my name on one of the tent’s.Finally I found my tent.I was sharing a tent with Ashlee and Porscha.Entering the tent it was so hot.As soon as we found the tent we had to set up our stuff and then go sit down next to the point board. Not long after I started, Porscha arrived. When Ashlee arrived we were half done.As we finished up, we got Ms King to come and check and she thought it looked great!I decided to go and see Tyla, Jonita and Jorja because they were int he same tent.I couldn't wait till we started camp activities.

Skate Land

Entering the rink, I could feel myself starting to wobble.I wasn't that keen because I haven't skated in 2 years! Rolling precariously I thought I was going to fall because the floor was so smooth! Moving unsteadily around the edge of the rink, I started to get use to skating. As I glided out to the middle someone flew right past me nearly tripping me over.As I got over to the side I yelled “Gabriel!!!’’.Gliding around the rink I started to get the hang of it.
Confidently skating around me and some other girls had races. After that the man that worked there would play sounds like’’woooowooooo’’that would mean the chicken wing.He would play lots of different sounds.
When the races began me and Porscha were the only ones that would race out of the girls. It was cool but I came not far from Porscha.Porscha won.We had alot of fun racing even though there were only two of us!
Unfortunately it was time to go to our next activity. I really enjoyed Skate Land and I would really like to go there for my next birthday. It was so fun!
