Easter!

Everyone knows how the Easter Story goes and everyone knows that Easter is about Jesus, Bunnies and Chocolate Eggs. But haven’t you ever wondered how Easter Eggs came around? They are now a big part of Easter and most people don’t know why?

Well, after doing some research, I found out that when you give Easter Eggs you are celebrating new life and apparently this tradition has been around for hundreds of years. Many other cultures do believe otherwise though.

You may think something else but this is what I found out!

A Surfing Dog

So I'm on a blue surfboard, wearing a wig and a life jacket at 11 o'clock in the morning, during winter. Why? Well, a few days ago someone mentioned surfing to my owner, which by the way was a bad idea.

Early this morning, he put me in the car and drove off to the nearest beach. There were many other surfers already out there, including dogs too. With my eyes still half shut he pulled me out of the car and took me to the shore.

Strapping me to the board, I lay down and close my eyes.Suddenly I heard “Time to surf!”.“OH NO!” I thought. Knowing I couldn't back out, Bob dragged the surfboard into the water. I knew my owner was crazy but I didn't think that he would do this.

Waves started crashing on the surfboard which made all my fur soaking wet. The first wave was tiny. It was alright besides from the fact that I was dripping wet. “Let’s try some bigger waves!” Bob said as he watched the gigantic incoming wave. Staring at the sight in front of me, I quickly became horrified. Turning to see the other surfers hopping out of the water, I barked at my owner. “Calm Down....” he said. I froze.

Readying the surfboard, the wave was just behind us. “Woohoo!” shouted Bob. The wave picked us up and we surfed through the barrel. It looked amazing, I stood up when, the barrel started closing up and all the happy screams silenced. I looked around and saw no sight of my owner. Knowing I had to do something, I walked to the tip of the board and tried to swerve it to the side.

Working quickly, I luckily got out. The last of the wave pushed me to the shore. “YAY!” I heard from the shore. Looking relieved and happy all the other surfers cheered. On the way back I saw my owner swimming back to shore. Glad, I sighed. A few days later I saw myself on the news. That was when I decided to take on surfing as a sport. Bob wasn't too keen.

Earthquake in Motutapu

Today at extension, our task was to copy an idea we saw in a article from the news paper. First we had to write what we felt when the earthquake occurred. Here is my finished product.
There were 2 earthquakes with the magnitude of 3.1 and 3.9 that were only 4 minutes away from each other. Many people felt it but some didn't. This has Gloria, Lisia and myself.

100 Word Story

Driving along the muddy road with my brother wasn't the most pleasant trip but it was better than going through the forest, with who knows what living there. “Slow down!!!” I scream at Zane. “You’re going to make us get stuck in a dip!” But no, he wouldn't listen. Racing through the mud, a mix of bugs and dirt splashed up onto the windscreen. Suddenly, Zane screeches to a stop and stares at the animal going past. Once it passes he stomps on the pedal and finds that we haven’t moved. I get out and see that we are stuck.

Einstein Poem

Our task was read a very short essay and then make something creative explaining what Einstein had quoted in his essay. Here is our poem.

How weird are us humans
For we don’t know the reason of life
Although I think I have a hunch
We might just be a bunch
of people here to please each other
Making us feel happy just like daughter and mother
For life is not long
We shall live it not right nor wrong
The things you do, affect me inside
Not to mention also the outside
Although they are unknown
Destiny binds us together for we have grown
by the ties of sympathy
The ideals that have lighted my way
“And time after time given me new courage” I say
To face life cheerfully and focus on the good things
Like Kindness, beauty and truth
Which can value more than a million rings.

BY TYLA-MARIE, KAYCEE AND GLORIA

Here is the Essay:

How strange is the lot of us mortals! Each of us is here for a brief sojourn; for what purpose he knows not, though he sometimes thinks he senses it. But without deeper reflection one knows from daily life that one exists for other people -- first of all for those upon whose smiles and well-being our own happiness is wholly dependent, and then for the many, unknown to us, to whose destinies we are bound by the ties of sympathy. A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life are based on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving...
The ideals that have lighted my way, and time after time have given me new courage to face life cheerfully, have been Kindness, Beauty, and Truth.

The Black Hole

Stuck at work, Bob was working with the photocopier when it suddenly became muddled. Frustrated with it, he bangs and kicks it until a mysterious piece of paper with a black circle prints out.

Bob takes no notice of this black circle and simply places it to the side and continues to print. Putting his coffee cup down, it suddenly disappears down the black hole. He reaches down the hole for the cup and places it on the nearby table.

He then examines the piece of paper by reaching through it. To test its powers, he walks towards the vending machine and wonders “This piece of paper could make me rich!” So placing the paper on the vending machine Bob reaches through the hole and grabs a chocolate bar. Then he heads to the main office.

Placing the paper on the door, he reaches through and opens the locked door. “The Safe” he thinks to himself. Rushing over to it, he sticks the paper up and greedily takes out handfuls of money. Wanting more, he climbs into the black hole knowing that is more bundles of money at the back of the safe but unfortunately the weight of Bob was too heavy for the tape to hold. It falls off the safe and Bob is locked in there..

BANG BANG BANG. He cried for help, but with no response, he was stuck in there.
