Road to Healthy Heaven

Miss King gave us a task where we had to create something either a painting, movie, etc. We chose to do a painting and here it is. It is a message to the community about healthy food, and good choices!

The Heart Attack Grill

Run by Jon Basso, The Heart Attack Grill has been known as “A taste worth dying for” But is it really? If they were to sell their burgers in Glen Innes nearly all the people in this community would be overweight. Some of these people could die. Here are three reasons why I don’t think that The Heart Attack Grill should be allowed to operate.

Reason 1: At their restaurant they sell Butter Cream Milkshakes, Fries and Fatty Burgers. To cook the food they use a lot of lard (lard is animal fat).
Evidence: If you weigh 350 pounds or more Jon Basso will give you free food.

Reason 2: This food can kill! Jon Basso warns his customers, if you eat this food, it may kill you, but he will still provide it for you if you want it. He also makes people think that being overweight is a good thing, when it clearly is not.
Evidence: Weighing at more than 500 pounds, his friend/spokesmodel Blair, died from pneumonia.

Reason 3: Sizes! The meals that are served at this restaurant are unbelievably big. Filled with fat they also tend to serve an unlimited amount of huge burgers, fries and milkshakes.
Evidence: Some burgers they sell are 4 patties high.

Although he’s selling all this fatty food, Jon Basso thinks that this will better the community’s food choices and will help out people to realize that they are eating terribly unhealthy food. But does that stop overweight customers from eating there?

Overall, I think you know that I would not like this restaurant to operate in Glen Innes at all. That’s my thought -  but what about you???

Will.i.am Comes to Pt England School!

Will.i.am came to Pt England School!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Yes, the international artist!

Will.i.am is such an inspirational person and it was amazing when we found out that he had decided to come to our school. Along with many other students, we couldn't believe it!

His mission is to help disadvantaged youths. He helped us by giving 100,000 dollars to the Manaiakalani Trust Foundation! I think that is just....... well you can’t really explain it! He also wants to make the future better for all us kids. He also said that even if only one person does well, it will be worth it.

After reading his lyrics from his latest song, That Power, I think that it talks about him and how he grew up to become who he is now. Basically he is saying, I grew up in a poor neighbourhood but I worked hard and look at me now! Famous, rich and living big.

Will.i.am has become a really great inspiration for me and probably for many other people! Thank you very much!

FiaFia!!!

FiaFia was about celebrating the 60th birthday of our school and to help celebrate, each kid from our school performed in a cultural and entertaining group such as the Samoan group, Tongan, Hawaiian, Hip Hop, Unicycling and much much more. Many parents and teachers also set up stalls to sell food and sweets.

Hearing the bell ring, I look towards the door to find kids flooding through. Squeezing past them, my friend and I run to the library ready to get changed. Arriving at the library, Jorja, Tyla and I get changed into our uniforms and line up for our moko. After that we went to get our feathers and had a few practices. Now we wait for our cue. Being the first ones on it was a bit nerve racking.

Walking up the stairs, I take my place on the stage and start to wiri. While I was waiting for the whaea's call, I smiled and looked out to the humongous audience. "Hope....Takahia!" There was the call. I started our performance and started singing. We did a few songs including both a girls and boys haka, a song that would start off the juniors, and another well known song called Kei he te Tuna. Then we finished with a "Tahi, Rua, Toru, Wha, PUKANA!

Rushing back to the library we got changed and sat down at the back of the other performers. This was truly a very entertaining event.
