Plight Of The Sea Turtle

I have been reading a story called Plight Of The Sea Turtle. On our reading activity we had to create a presentation that tells people a fact or 2 about each species of sea turtle. If you want to know more then click through my presentation.

ROW Poetry

The year after ROW started, (2009) some of our students got to conference with Will Smith himself! This was all set up by a lady called Carol Anne McGuire.

Rock Our World is a global project which has over 30 schools from around the world participate.  2008 was when the ROW (Rock Our World) first started. Each year there is a different topic and this year our focus is on poems.

As part of ROW the extension class have been practicing with different topics. Our first practice one was about chocolate. Our one we had to post on our blog was about Mrs Tele'a. Here is what I created. Also thanks Mrs Tele'a for being a great model!

A haiku is a japanese poem. To create a haiku you need to have 5 syllables in the first sentence, 7 in the second and 5 in the 3rd and final sentence.

Camp Recount

Can you guess how many kids we had come to our school camp? There were 165 children from years 5 and 6 all squeezed into 56 tents on the Pt England school field.  I couldn’t wait!

I wrote a post about what I was looking forward to and what I was most worried about. The thing I was most looking forward to was the Top Teams challenge but guess what! My favourite thing was my worst thing. It was kayaking.

I didn’t like doing camp cooking. I wanted to do campfire like the boys but we weren't allowed to. When I wrote my other post I said the thing I was most worried about was the concert. It turned out alright thought.

One thing I found amusing was when I tipped the kayak. While I was kayaking in a single boat I collided into one of my friends. Suddenly TIP!!  Over went the kayak, the water was freezing, but I was so pleased that it was shallow. I quickly tipped it back over and jumped back in.

I had a goal for camp. It was to be a great team leader and have an amazing performance. I think I achieved the goal to have a great performance because we came 2nd.

I had an AMAZING camp. I felt great but sad at the same time when we had to leave because I didn’t want to go. It was fun though! I can’t wait until next year.

Historical File - Pencil

I have been reading a story set in the future called Space Nuts Light Speed by Simon Cooke. Just like in this story, I have written a historical file about an object we use on earth, that someone could read about in the future.

A pencil is used to write. Inside there is something called carbon. This part is the bit that makes the lines and the marks. Outside of the carbon is a wood part. It covers the thin piece of carbon so it doesn't snap. Some pencils are used to draw or sketch. Some of them also have a eraser to rub things out. You hold a pencil in your hands with your fingers as support. The pencil is quite a great invention.

First Day Of Camp!

Finally, I had been waiting for ages for this day! I couldn't wait to do all the activities. I was most scared of the kayaking activity. The first thing we did was called Top Teams. Mr Marks had made it up. We were vs his team. After that is was kayaking.

Their was a big suprise that I found out and that was that it turns out my favourite thing was kayaking. What a surprise I thought to myself. I can't wait until tomorrow.

Camp, Camp, Camp!

How exciting, the year 5 6's camp is only 2 days away!

I can't wait until we get to do the Top Teams challenge! I am looking forward to being able to get messy without getting in trouble.

This year I'm worried about the concert. Last year I was scared doing the performance in front of lots of people and now this year I have to make up a dance which is even scarier.

Symbols Representing Me!

This photo was one of our projects for extension.  We had to draw 4 symbols that represent us.

My first picture is some music notes. I drew these because I really enjoy listening to music and singing.

Symbol 2: It represents my culture which is maori.

Symbol 3: I love reading as you can see. One of my favourite authors is Roald Dahl.

Symbol 4: Another thing I love doing is art. I love it when Ms Muliaumasealii come to our class because she loves art too.

Presenting to the Mayor

This was our first time presenting to anyone and the first people we presented to was the Mayor. We also presented to Lady Carter and Sir Ron Carter. When we presented to the Mayor, the Sunday Star Times person came along too. When he came to our class he took a picture of Tyla and I doing our work and posted it in the paper. Now it is online too. Click Here to see it.

Weekly Diary... Friday

Finally! It was Friday.Today our teacher was Ms Muliaumasealii. She loved doing art and so did I.

We were moving on to our second task with her since most of us had finished our first one, the vision board. Our second one was to create pictures of our goals in Tux Paint. So far I have finished sports.

Weekly Diary... Thursday

Thursday is just a normal day. We have writing in the morning and reading afterwards. After play we have maths.

After school on Thursday my dad pick me and my little brother up and we go to my nana’s house. After a while there, we go to touch. My cousins and I all play against each other.

Weekly Diary... Wednesday

On Wednesday morning we had cricket. I ran out to the field to find my class on the field. We were practicing how to bowl the ball with our teacher, Hamnet. Unfortunately this was our last session with him.

Also on Wednesday we normally have I.C.T and Music. But since alot of tests have been going on we have not been having I.C.T and music. It has been pretty boring.

Weekly Diary... Tuesday

When I got to school I remembered that we had a test. So I ran to class. Luckily they hadn’t gone to the hall yet. After a few minutes we started to get ready. Grabbing our chairs we walked in a line to the hall. After finishing the star test we walked back to class quietly. When we got back it was morning tea time.

When I got back from morning tea we did the quick 20. After maths we played a game called Around the World. After we played Around The World Whaea Raywyn came. We had maori. As the bell went we packed up and went home.

Weekly Diary... Monday

When I woke up on Monday morning I felt tired. I could hear an annoying sound in my head telling me to get up. Finally opening my eyes I saw my dad. It was 6:30 and he was trying to get me out of bed. Slowly dragging myself to my draw I found my uniform and put it on.

Arriving at school, I jumped out of the car and ran to class. When I got there I found my class doing writing. So I pulled out my net book and started working. At 10:30 I went to the Tusitala with Mrs Burt. We were practising our speech for our visitors coming. When the ambassadors get back it is nearly morning tea. I grabbed out my maths book and got ready for the quick 20.

Vision Board Goal

For the last few weeks we have been creating a vision board with Ms Muliaumasealii. We created a picture in Tux Paint then we had to post it on our blog.

This year some of my goals for myself are: I want to get better at swimming and my maths. I also want to get better at filming and editing movies and I really want to do more reading.

These are only some of my goals, but there are a lot more.
