Olympic Medals

In extension, we had to design an olympic medal. We had to think about what the olympics would look like in New Zealand. Once we had ideas we planned them on piece of paper. As you can see I have put a kiwi bird, a silver fern and the skytower. These represent New Zealand.

Wahine by Robyn Kahukiwa

In extension we were learning about New Zealand Artists. One painting we looked at is called Wahine. This was drawn by Robyn Kahukiwa. We had to copy the painting and make a movie out of it. I hope you like it!

CAMP WAS AWESOME!

Camp has just finished and now I am going to tell you about it! Arriving at Camp Bentzon we were greeted by Peter and Erin(they are the people who own Camp Bentzon) The boys also performed a haka.

I couldn't wait until our first activity started but first we had a walk to finish. Walking up the hills for around 2 hours and a half nearly killed me! As soon as we finished we had free time for the rest of the day!!!

Out of all the activities my favourite one was SAILING! Even though it was boring, with not much wind, we still had a whole heap of fun! After we geared up, Peter gave us 20 minutes of instructions, then off we went. Our aim was a boat called Typhoon. After we left the little bit of the bay, the wind started to pick up. We had races and some boys sang songs. Soon we had to get to our next activity.

Heading towards the Abseiling wall, there we met Anita and Camila. They taught us how to abseil. Before I could abseil I had to wait a while but soon it was my turn. Climbing up the metal rings I could feel my stomach turning. Finally I got to the top. Slowly walking back down, I felt like I was floating in air. When I touched the ground I wanted to do it again.

On the last night we had our concert and that is where each group performs. After everyone performed, Mr Jacobsen started to announce the winner... "In 3rd place... Mansion!!! And In 2nd place.... Katz!!! And with 4700 points Kawau and Benzon!!! I was so surprised. Also we have a camp king and queen and this year they were Tyla-Marie and Wyatt and Isara! I had a whole lot of fun! I wish I could go again. Maybe my family and I could go!

Camp is Coming!!!

Finally!!! Tomorrow most of the year 6’s will be heading to Kawau Island for a fantastic camp and experience. All the activities sound like such fun. Also sleeping in the same room as my friends will be even better.

Most people know that Camp Benzon is on Kawau Island. To get to Kawau Island you have to take a ferry from sandspit. Well, that’s how we’re getting there. It even comes all the way to our wharf!

There are many things to enjoy at Kawau Island such as the wharf, volleyball court and the park. Not to mention the activities we do. Like sailing, abseiling, orienteering and much more! But I am most looking forward to the Burma Trail!

The Burma Trail sounds like fun although I don’t know if I can trust my partner. Luckily there is a rope to guide us. I really want to do this because I do enjoy obstacle courses and being blindfolded will make it even more of a challenge.

I think the challenge for me will be orienteering because I didn't do very well in the last one at our other camp. Also I don't know how to use a compass.

Overall I think this is going to be amazing! I can’t wait until tomorrow morning!!!!

Couplet Poetry

Summer:
Boiling hot sun

Spoils the fun
On the sand
Away from land
Near the waves
I see the caves
Camp:
At year 6 camp
I don’t want a cramp
From a run
I did in the sun
It will ruin my day
And that’s what I say

Operation Flax

It is about a girl called Freya, her mum and a lady, who just moved in called Mrs Harper. She has been having trouble getting up and down her driveway so she decides to remove the flax. This shocks Freya and her mum because they love the flax. Freya even makes syrup for the tui’s that come and her mum makes kete’s from it.

Mrs Harper feels sorry for them but doesn't change her mind. Freya and her mum then try to convince Mrs Harper to keeping it by... making syrup for the tui’s and putting on Mrs Harper’s side of the flax. Then her mum makes a kete for Mrs Harper. Suddenly along come some tui’s. Mrs Harper calls her husband to see it and soon they decide to keep it at the back of their house where Freya and her mum will be able to see and get to it.

Kids Triathlon

During the week we had the chance to try out the Kids Triathlon. As most people know tri mean 3 and athlon means event or competition. The three sports in a triathlon are Swimming, Biking and Running.

To start the challenge we had to slide four times over the water slide. It was like our pool. Standing in front of the water slide, I suddenly felt a shock of cold water being sprayed. “3, 2, 1 GO!!!” shouted Brett and off we went. Smoothly sliding across the slide, I soon had to get up and do another 3.

Heading into transition zone (this is where we change sports) I grabbed my bike and pushed it out to the biking zone. Hopping on, I pedaled around the flags to the finish line. Jumping off just before the transition zone, I parked my bike and started off in the run.

Off to a jogging start, I looked around for Lisia and Jonita. Not far behind I stopped and waited for a while. Getting closer and closer to the finish line, I nearly tripped. Finally finishing the whole thing I couldn't wait to do it again!

I had so much fun on the water slide and hope to someday do another one. Even though it is so much fun it can be exhausting!

The Bush

With wind blowing through my hair on a Saturday afternoon, I suddenly spot a bush track with gorgeous flowers she had never seen before. Curious to find out what else was in the bush I dropped my bike and walked over to the track and starts riding towards the beginning of the bush. With Josh following close behind they suddenly come to a stop.

Looking at both tracks, we started to get confused. Thinking to myself, “which way??”
Hesitating about the track, Josh started walking down the right one. Without thinking I run up to him and stay close by.Thinking “When are we going to get out of here?” another sudden stop awakes me from my thinking.

Too frightened to see what is was, I slowly forced myself to peek past Josh. With my eyes wide open I see a river too deep for us to walk through. “We are going to make it, we are going to make it” I repeat over and over to myself.

Suddenly a drop of water falls down to my nose. “We have to swim!” yells Josh. Diving into the water I feel a shiver go up my spine but I ignore it. Getting closer to the edge I jump up and run out of the bush and find that it has stopped raining.

Josh suddenly runs out and I can tell he thinks “WHY did you do that!” I am so happy that we are out and safe! Shivering and glad Josh and I walk home.

THE END
